Wine of the Week – 2016 Annies Lane Cabernet Merlot, Clare Valley, SA

I was doing a bit of cooking the other week and I tend try not to use some of my good wines for cooking because I don’t want to be wasted. So I went out to Dan Murphy’s to look for a good dry white wine. Not a good one but a dry white wine for cooking and, as I normally do, I kind of veer-off and go past the Cellar Release area to see what’s available there. You always you have to go visit there!

At the Cellar Release section I saw a 2016 Annie’s Lane Cabernet Merlot from Clare Valley. Can you guess how much that costs? $19!!!! Surprisingly it was really, really good. I love that kind of graphite lead pencil from a Cabernet, and this really came through. Blackberries were humming. I had it with a bavette steak and it just absolutely hit the spot.

At $19 that was an absolute bargain. I’d go back to Dan Murphy’s to get some more!
