After a recent European road trip with my family, something really stood out to me, and it was not just the wine, but how wine fits into everyday life. In …places like France and Italy, sitting down for a proper meal with food and wine is normal. Lunch is not rushed. Families and friends take their time, talk, eat together, and enjoy a glass of wine without guilt. Compare that to Australia, where lunch often means grabbing a sandwich, eating at your desk, and getting straight back to work. In this episode, we talk about the cultural differences between European and Australian wine culture, and why they feel so far apart. We explore how history, tradition, and centuries of food and wine being part of daily life shape the European approach, while Australia, as a much younger country, tends to move at a faster pace. We also talk about whether this is something society can change, or if it starts at home, one family and one table at a time. Beyond culture, we look at the real benefits of slowing down, from better mental health and reduced stress to stronger social connections. This is not about saying one way is right or wrong, but about asking whether we can learn something from the European approach to food, wine, and time.
