Wirra Wirra is one of McLaren Vale’s best-known wineries, with a history stretching back to 1894 and a reputation built around wines that combine character, generosity and a strong sense of place. The winery’s modern story is closely associated with the late Greg Trott, whose irreverent personality and commitment to McLaren Vale helped shape the Wirra Wirra identity we know today.
Church Block has been part of that story since 1972, when the original blend was made from Grenache and Shiraz. The blend later evolved into the iconic Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot version that became a household name. The Grenache Shiraz Church Block now brings the story back to its roots, pairing two varieties that thrive in McLaren Vale.
2025 Church Block Grenache Shiraz
The 2025 Church Block Grenache Shiraz is a vibrant, medium-bodied red showcasing the fresh character of McLaren Vale. Aromas of pomegranate, cherry, fresh plum and rose water lead into a bright, fruit-driven palate. Fine-grained tannins provide structure and texture, while subtle baking spice adds complexity through the finish.
The blend combines 60% Grenache with 40% Shiraz, bringing freshness, red fruit and darker fruit together. Grenache provides lifted red-fruit character, while Shiraz adds depth, richness and savoury complexity.
The result is a generous and approachable red with freshness, balance and plenty of food-friendly structure. Best enjoyed while young and vibrant.
