2016 Domaine de la Fontainerie Demi Sec Vouvray

Original price was: $52.00.Current price is: $46.80.

The 2016 Domaine de la Fontainerie Vouvray Demi-Sec is very much my style of Chenin Blanc. At ten years old, it has developed beautifully, with a stunning golden colour and an orange hue that hints at its age.

It has just a touch of sweetness, giving the wine roundness without becoming overly sweet. Aromatic and complex, it brings together honeycomb-like notes and a gentle waxy character, adding depth and intrigue. Best of all, the finish lingers long after each sip, with its flavours continuing to unfold on the palate.

It’s thoroughly enjoyable on its own. However, its gentle sweetness and refreshing acidity also make it a natural partner for Asian cuisine, particularly spicy dishes where a little sweetness helps balance the heat.

Exclusively imported by Vino Cammino, this Vouvray retails for $52 per bottle, or $46.80 when you join their mailing list.

About Domaine de la Fontainerie

Domaine de la Fontainerie is a family-owned winery in Vouvray, in France’s Loire Valley, with a winemaking heritage dating back to 1712. The estate’s six-hectare vineyard is planted entirely with Chenin Blanc, the region’s signature grape. Meanwhile, clay-limestone soils and historic tuffeau cellars help shape the wines’ distinctive character. The family produces a range of Vouvray styles, from crisp, dry whites to rich, sweet wines and sparkling cuvées. With careful vineyard management and traditional winemaking techniques, Domaine de la Fontainerie showcases the versatility and ageing potential of Loire Valley Chenin Blanc.

2016 Vouvray Demi Sec

The 2016 Domaine de la Fontainerie Vouvray Demi-Sec offers ripe golden kiwi fruit, layered with honey and a distinctive lanolin character. A silky hazelnut note adds complexity, while the fruit is more expressive on the palate than the nose. Despite its demi-sec style, the wine delivers remarkable freshness, supported by acidity that exceeds the estate’s drier bottlings. With 14% alcohol and eight months of ageing on fine lees, it combines a full-bodied texture with vibrant energy. The finish is mouthwatering and persistent, making this mature Chenin Blanc a compelling expression of Vouvray. (Vino Cammino)
