The Wined Up Review – Sorrenberg have done it again!
On the nose it smells of dried cranberries and cherries, with a hint of earthiness as well. It has ripping acidity with brings the brightness and freshness that cuts right through. I love it. It has this perfumed length to it too. At $55 this is a bargain!
Sorrenberg Gamay – We understand the HYPE!
The 2023 Sorrenberg Gamay has been mentioned a fair bit on the comments of social media and we wanted to find out why!
When visiting Sorrenberg, you’ll meet Jan and Barry Morey, the husband-and-wife team behind this unpretentious and inviting winery. The cellar is reminiscent of a cozy, underground space with just a few barrels and a simple tasting area. Tasting their wines feels like being at your parents’ place, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
How is it made?
The style of Gamay produced by Sorrenberg uses a combination of traditional Gamay techniques. There is 10% Pinot Noir used in the blend. Half of the Gamay was cold macerated where the fruit is picked cold, crushed and left to soak for 4 days before fermentation starts. Of the rest, 20% of the fruit is left whole in the ferment. Fermentation with natural yeast is for 2 weeks on skins, after which the wine is pressed and matured in oak for eleven months.
