The Wined Up Review – A solid 8 pushing 9!
Boal wines are known for their longevity—this one will last a long time, but not quite a thousand years! We reviewed the Boal because it’s often said to be the best medium-sweet Madeira to pair. It has crystal-clear notes of dried raisins and a very clean, bright profile. The balance is spot on, with enough acidity and brightness to keep the alcohol in check. There’s a nice butterscotch, pudding-like length that really shines through. It’s the kind of wine you want to sip by a fire on a cold winter’s night. The charred note really stands out in a good way, adding a smoky, burnt edge like the best bits of grilled meat mixed with toasty nuts. It has a nice darkness that’s just lovely.
HISTORY OF HENRIQUES & HENRIQUES
Henriques & Henriques started in 1850 founded by Joao Concalves Henriques. His sons João Joaquim and Francisco Eduardo Henriques formed a partnership to form “Henriques & Henriques”. The are major player in producing consistently high-quality Madeira wines. They are the only Madeira Wine Company with its own vineyards.
BOAL 10 YEARS OLD – TASTING NOTES
